Phone service to the Reference Desk has been fully restored. Patrons may now reach us via our regular phone number 972-883-2643.

Ebooks Library (EBL) Maintenance Scheduled for Wed. Night, 9/26, 9-11pm

EBL, the Ebook Library, will be down for maintenance tonight from 9pm-11pm. Service should be restored after that time. This outage will affect any EBL titles that are linked to the library catalog.

In early August NASA launched a rocket for planet Mars that includes a mass spectrometer built by longtime UTD professor Dr. John Hoffman and his team. The device is intended to find water ice and other water-related substances (minerals) on the Red Planet. Dr. Hoffman, a physics professor and Assoicate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in UTD's Physics Division, will discuss UT Dallas' exciting role in the Mars Phoenix Mission.

No Phone Service to the Librarian!

Patrons will not be able to contact the librarian by phone (972-883-2643) until further notice. Phone service to the Reference Desk has been disrupted until further notice. WebCT Update

NOTE - THIS CAME FROM THE WEBCT ADMINISTRATOR:

WebCT is still experiencing the System Exception Errors that manifested on Sunday. They are still in the process of repairing the database error.
They are in contact with WebCT's technical support to expedite solution discovery. They are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible with no further data loss.

From what information that was able to be gathered from student input, this is the basic problem being experienced by many users of WebCT: failure to upload documents to WebCT discussion boards or emails.

"Get It" Icon Won't Always Get It

When searching McDermott Library's databases, you'll often see this icon next to a citation. In theory, if you click this icon, you will sometimes get a link to an electronic full-text article. We are currently having difficulties with this service, but you can still get links to full-text articles. Just go to the library's catalog and find the journal from your citation using a "Journal/Periodical Title" search. The catalog will provide an ejournal link (if available). Call the Reference Desk (972-883-2643) for further assistance.

Electronic Journals Are Back!

We have resolved the problem with linking to our electronic journal holdings. The problem primarily affected access to electronic journals in Academic Search Complete via the library catalog, but the service provider has assured us that the problem has been fixed. We appreciate your patience while access was down.

Legendary broadcaster Bill Mercer will appear at UTD to discuss his new memoir of a remarkable 50-year sportscasting career. He appeared in the McDermott Library-UTD Mercury Writers Series in 2005 to discuss his role in covering the John F. Kennedy Assassination in 1963. Mercer currently serves as the PA announcer at UTD Comet basketball games. His book gives an insider's view particularly of sports and the ins and outs of calling play-by-play and interviewing celebrity athletes. His career includes play-by-play duties for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago White Sox and the North Texas Mean Green. The UTD Bookstore will have Mercer's books available for purchase. Labor Day Holiday

The Library will close at midnight Sunday, September 2nd and be closed all day Monday, September 3rd for the Labor Day holiday. Normal hours resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4th.
