The Interlibrary Loan service is now fully operational. New and previously registered users should be able to access it without any problems.

As of this morning, the Interlibrary Loan system is experiencing difficulties accepting any new patron registrations. Those patrons who are already registered should have no trouble logging in and requesting an item. We apologize for the delay and hope to have the system working properly as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on The Orbit for updates.

Security & Off-Campus Access

To the University of Texas at Dallas Community,

Due to a cyber assault on the University Library’s online resources, we have added an extra layer of security to the system. When accessing our online resources from a remote location, you will now be asked for your last name as well as you Comet Card number. Your last name will go in a separate field and will be encrypted. It is extremely important that you do not share your Comet Card number, and if you lose your Comet Card, alert the Comet Card office immediately. We are working with the Information Resources staff to protect our resources from misuse and unauthorized access that could threaten everyone’s access to these materials. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated.

2005 IRS tax forms and instructions are available on IRS.gov. The library does not carry paper copies of the forms or the instructions. We also recommend checking the nearest public library or post office for selected forms and instructions in paper.

2. Renew books

New Electronic Resource – The Chronicle of Higher Education online

The Chronicle of Higher Education is the premier online source of news, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators. Produced every weekday, the Chronicle's website features the complete contents of the latest printed issue; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job listings; articles published since September 1989; vibrant discussion forums; access to all RSS feeds; and career-building tools such as an online CV's, salary databases, and more.

For UTD Faculty: How to place items on Electronic Reserve?

Professors may submit Reserve requests in one of three ways:

1. Fill out an online form
2. Send an e-mail to libresv@utdallas.edu that details your Reserve request
3. Fill out a paper Reserve request form in person at the Reserves Department, 3rd Floor, Room 3.7

Full citation and course information must accompany all submissions. Any incomplete forms will be returned.

Copies of printed materials must meet the following guidelines:

1. On 8 ½ x 11 white paper
2. Single-sided
3. High quality copies (pencil markings do not scan well. If you have material written in pencil, please photocopy it)
4. Paper clipped, not stapled
5. Complete copyright information must be submitted for copyrighted works. Please include a copy of the masthead for journals, and the back of the title page for books.

Electronic files may be e-mailed as attachments to libresv@utdallas.edu. Please label the attachment as the name you want to appear on your course list.

Attention UTD Wireless Users! Important Change Needed on Personal Laptops

Because of a recent fix/upgrade of the campus-wide wireless network, all wireless users will need to reconfigure the wireless cards on their personal laptops for connecting to the AirUTD Wireless Network. Easy-to-follow instructions for Windows XP users are provided on the Information Resources site.

Users can also bring their laptop computers to the IR Technical Support Office in Jonsson (JO 3.906) for in-person help. Because the office is currently very busy with the new spring semester, users are strongly encouraged to make an appointment (assist@utdallas.edu or 972-883-2911) before coming to the office. Users may also seek help via online forms: UTD Help Desk and Computing Help Desk.

LAPTOPS AVAILABLE

The laptops are back!

Students may once again check out the newly-serviced laptops at the Multimedia Desk.

Due to changes in the campus wireless network, students will now need to log into the laptops using their NetID and password.

This Just In!

A new and improved Interlibrary Loan system was implemented on January 3, 2006 just in time for the new semester. Submit and track your requests, get requested articles, and request renewals of interlibrary loan materials from one screen.

The System requires you to register and establish a password. Once you have registered, you will need only your Comet Card number and the password to enter the System.

Interlibrary Loan is available to UTD faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students whose library accounts are in good standing.

System Alert

As previously mentioned, the library catalog (Voyager) experienced a major upgrade (Dec. 12-14). Unfortunately, the upgrade has not been problem free. Due to this action, patrons may still come across some glitches or problems with the catalog . If you do have a problem, please call or email one of the Reference Librarians with your problem (972-883-2955 or click http://www.utdallas.edu/library/howto/forms/erfform.html). We will do our best to resolve the situation as quickly and efficiently as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Laptops Unavailable

Due to servicing, the laptops at our Multimedia Desk are temporarily not available for checkout. We will inform you as soon as IR releases them for circulation.

In the meantime, if you need to utilize a computer, please check out a password to the Information Commons from the Circulation Desk. These desktops offer all the same programs you are familiar with on the laptops.
