Free Lunch at McDermott Library

Do You Haiku? Get Creative for National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month. Do you haiku?

In honor of National Poetry Month, the McDermott Library Reference Department is holding the 5th Annual Haiku Competition. Submit your original library-themed haiku:

1st line: 5 syllables,
2nd line: 7 syllables,
3rd line: 5 syllables

to Matt Makowka ( by April 30th via your UTD e-mail, Subject: Haiku Contest 2015.

Note: only ONE poem per entrant will be accepted, so make sure it's your BEST effort! The winner will be selected in the first week of May.

The winner will:
  • Receive an gift card.
  • Have his/her work displayed at the library, on our website, and in social media.
  • Earn serious bragging rights.
Legal fine print: All haikus submitted become the property of the Eugene McDermott Library. The contest is for currently enrolled students only.
